Mishap...

This week I got a new webber. I use it to take down all the webs and wasp nest around the home. It is a poll that extends like 50 feet.  My old one was fiber glass and really old. I was getting slivers from it because I don't have to wear gloves when I am using it.  So I asked for a new one, this new webber is metal and really heavy. I didn't realize how much power it had until I was letting it down and it fell.  My hand was in the way....

I pinched it pretty good, I thought that I could get away with finishing the service and then run to the grocery store to get it all cleaned up. I was bleeding all over the place.  I had to knock on the customers door and ask to wash off my hand and a band-aid. She was very helpful. I finished the service with only a little more gushing from my wound.  I ran to the grocery store to get more band-aids. The rest of the day I battled with dry blood all around the band-aid.
It will be a nice callus when it finally heals.  It won't be the only one.  My hands turn into man hands over the summer.

This week has been quite the adventure, our office lost 4 people.  Some because they weren't selling, others cause they just wanted to travel and others cause the didn't have the determination to do summer sales.  Sumer sales isn't for everyone. This gig isn't easy, I think that a lot of people think that its a walk in the park and anyone could do it. I am here to tell you that it isn't and it can be really hard and your not sure why you do it. It also can be rewarding.  The money defiantly is worth it.  It's a really great accomplishment, to say that you worked really hard for four months so you don't have to work quite as hard while in school, is all some people need.  I still have to work just as hard because I am a Technician and I don't get paid as much.  It is still an accomplishment for me to be able to say that I did summer sales and it was hard but I got through it.  It is still early in the summer, and the hard times are yet to come for me. I know that they are coming, its a matter of time.  But I will take them on and push through them, to become the best person I can be.   I hope that I can remember that it is a small challenge, and that I have it pretty easy. I am very lucky to have the family and friends that I do, and to be where I am today.

Summer Romance

What would summer sales be without a little romance?  It is only a matter of time before someone has found another.  It usually always turns out to be friends with benefits.  It must be in the water.  Last summer it stayed on the DL.  Not a lot of drama.  The summer before it was huge drama! It was a mess.  It is only the beginning of this summer, but it has happened.  The summer romances have begun...no need to worry, it is not me.  YAY! for Love!

Girl Technicians?!?

I am driving out to my area this morning when a car full of boys drive by me.  They were all in white dress shirts.  As they drive by, they all look.  One continues to look so I waved and said Hi. He smiled, turned around and told the other boys something.  What I don't know.  The driver then does the raise the roof motion.  I can only imagine what they were thinking.  Then this afternoon I was driving out of a gas station when another car full of boys where white polos drive by.  They all smiled.
My conclusion to this is that we are all out here for summer sales.  They knew that I was not a regular technician.  And I could tell that they were not just a group of boys just hanging out. It was so funny!  Two in one day.  Every company is going for the same look.
I do get a lot of  "you normally don't see a lot of girls doing this job." Sometimes customers are grateful to have a girl and others don't like it.  Its just one of those things. Girls can do the same things as boys. We just aren't use to seeing things that aren't normal.  Me, Not normal!

Rebecca, Eli, Wife, Inhale, Squats!

I am known for having Mentos everywhere I go. This is because the Dentist told me not to chew gum anymore.  I still need fresh breath so I have mentos.  Yesterday while driving to church I pull the mentos out and ask if anyone wants one. Everyone of course wants one, plenty to go around. Douglas goes "Meag I am going to call you the Fresh Maker. That is what I am going to call you one the doors my Fresh Maker is going to come by and service your home."  Isn't Doug Funny?
Shilah too liked the nickname and it may stick for the summer.  The last two summers I have received several nicknames. My favorite though is from last year....let's take a trip memory lane.
Kami, Steph, Elizabeth, Cali, and I were playing Phase 10 one sunday. We decided that we should have nicknames for the game, Kam would call us all different names when we would call in to tell her we were done with a service, which is how Steph got hers, the rest we just made up.   Steph is Rebecca, Elizabeth is Eli, Cali is Wife, Kam is Inhale, I am Squats. Cal and I were sitting next to each other looking at each others cards. We both had cards that each other needed, both of us were trying to figure out how we were going to get the cards without getting caught.   Finally Cal said "Meag we can't do that give me cards back."   So we switch cards, when really we didn't  switch in the first place.  It was so great! Cal was Brilliant.  I couldn't believe that we had pulled it off. But we did.  I don't even remember who won the game.  It was the funniest game of Phase 10 I have ever played.  Cali confessed when we were finished playing.  We rolled on the floor laughing for a very long time.  It was just what we all needed in the stress of Summer Sales.  It still brings a smile to my face to even think about it. I wish that you all could have been there because it was so great!

Sugar Momma

Don't worry its not me...I have a friend who has a very big heart.  She has  a hard time saying no.  A guy asked her to the jazz game a couple of weeks ago. She of course said yes. He proceeds to tell her that his car is in the shop and asked her to drive.  Not a big deal. She was driving to his house when he calls and says that he mad a mistake and the tickets were actually for saturdays game. She then tells him that they should go anyways.  The only tickets they  could get were lower bowl tickets.  They were priced at One hundred eighty dollars, she got them along with some other fees. She spent 500 dollars on a date that she should not have.  I would have told him that I would love to go to saturdays game, and figure something else out for that night.  That is too much money for someone to just fork out because you can't read correctly. Her heart is just to nice.  Tonight she text me and says you'll never believe what happened. He text me tonight and asked if I was going to the jazz game this week, and if I was and needed someone to go with me, he was available. REALLY??  He has got some nerve. He was so lucky to have gone to the first game.   I couldn't believe it.  Who does that?  I think that he needs a lesson in dating.

Sunday Traditions!

Last year in San Fran we would all get together after church and play games. It was they only time that we really have to be normal people. I am not lying every other waking hour of the week is all about pest control.  Live, breath and eat it.  We started playing Mofia one sunday and it became our little tradition. We all looked forward to Sunday night because it was so much fun.
This summer I think that it'll be the same. We all got together last night and played Mofia. It took a couple of rounds for everyone to get. I don't know that it'll ever get as intense as last years rounds with Tom and Dave. They were/are very good at playing the game. After a couple of rounds we decided to play some other games.  The first Big Booty.  I didn't play big booty, because someone needs to record it on film......I just really don't like it.  After Big Booty we played a game I call the name game, some others called it Kings, Chairs, etc. It is a game played girls vs. boys.   The girls were so close to winning and someone need some help remembering a name so I helped a little.  Jeff looked at me and called me a cheater. No one else saw me.  I then continued to help my teammates out.   Jeff caught me again and we called it a girls victory. We played one more game and Jeff cheated just as bad as me.  It was so funny. It was so enjoyable. YAY! for sunday night games.
After games everyone headed home to get ready for the week.  Ryan of course leaves his things at our apartment. I think he did it so he could see us again one more time.  So I walked them over.  As I was walking to his apartment some of the other girls we walking back to there apartment, when one of them fainted.  At first I thought that she was just being silly, after all we had just finished a night a lot of fun.  That thought only last a second. By the time I reached her she was coming back to consciousness.  I ran to get the boys. We all were there trying to calm her down, the security guard called 911.  Some of us went to the hospital to make sure she was all taken care of.   When we walked into the hospital we all just kinda looked at each other wondering what we were getting ourselves into.  The ER waiting room was  full of all kinds of people.   Some of who were probably there just for a place to sleep on something for a couple of hours. Others who were had made some bad choices.  It was quite the experience.  I didn't get home until 3 in the morning and got up and 6 for my days work.  As I have contemplating the events of Sunday I am so lucky to be where I am and am lucky to have such great people around me that want the same things.  Friends who would do anything to make sure we are all okay.  Many of us who have just meet each other.  However it is long enough to know that we are all in it together, and will do whatever it takes.   I am so grateful to have such great family and friends. I would stay up that late every night if that is what I need to do to make sure those around me know that I love them and am willing to do whatever it takes.

to knock or not to knock?

I had a busy day of services today,  I continued to come across an issue.  I would ring the doorbell and wait for an answer. I waited to what I thought it was long enough. Then I would knock, at which point they would answer the door.  Several of them were a little frustrated with me, I think.  Here is the Dilemma, how long do you wait for someone to answer the door before you attempt another way of getting a hold of them when you know that they are home?  One guy would only open his door like two inches,  just enough to see one and half eyes. I am not a bad guy just the bug girl to kill your bugs buddy...

I was going to a friends apartment to get a key to get into my apartment, we haven't made extras yet. I see this kid in the parking lot starring at me.  I ignored him as I got out to the truck, he didn't ignore me.  He asked if I knew someone. I had no idea who he was talking about, I started walking to the apartment he then asked me if I wanted to go smoke something.  I don't know exactly but I think that it was something close to Marijuana.  I turned around and said What? He pulled up his hand and said you wanna smoke? I turned back around and said NO, no thank you! I was proud of myself for not even thinking about how I was to respond. But I was in shock. I am still in shock.  I really am frazzled over it,  I don't know what to do with myself. I think it is because it was in his hands in a bag. He was walking around like there is nothing wrong.  For him there is nothing wrong, for me there absolutely is.

One crazy day....only more to come, I'm sure.

No longer living in sin....

I drove to Sacramento a week ago.  My hope was to get all moved in and settle before everyone else came out.   Well it isn't at all how it happened. I got here and got the keys to the apartment and found it.  I open the door to an empty apartment.  Usually they have all the furniture all placed before we get here. Not this year....I slept on the floor for two nights.  I was the only one out here so it wasn't a big deal. I laid my blankets on the floor in the living room and plugged in the lap top and watched movies. Exciting uh?  Wednesday Jeffrey finally showed up. (we were suppose to caravan out on Monday) Jeffrey and I unpacked him into the one apartment that was available for us.  It has been a little bit of  a mess to get us all settled in, we didn't have enough apartments for all the bodies that showed up this weekend.  I have been living out of a suitcase and with Jeffrey and Ryan since Wednesday.  Today we had a break through in the chaos of apartments and I am no longer living in sin?!?!?  The boys and I were very modest, my father assured me that we weren't living in sin and it was okay.  I am no longer living out of suitcase and it feels so great!

Ol' Stompin' Grounds!

So I decided to do another summer of pest control. I had the option of going back to the East Bay. I chose not to go because I had already been there and I didn't know anyone that was going to the East Bay.  Today was my first day out on the job.  I get into the office, Allen tells me where we are going to service.  Tracy.  I just looked at him like he was crazy, because we are not so close to Tracy. I serviced in  Tracy last year. Sacramento is a couple hours north from Tracy. Commuting a couple of hours for services is crazy to me, especially when there is a branch that is so much closer.   So Paul and I headed out to Tracy, yup an hour an half later we were in Tracy to do ONE service.  Maybe only those that did summer of pest control in East Bay would be able to sympathize with me.
I wish that I could have taken a picture of the people's home we serviced.  Four generations lived in this house.  CRAZY people. Great Grandma was missing a leg, and still in her pjs. Grandma was the shortest shorts ever and a much too small shirt.  The daughters boyfriend was home as well. Grandma keep telling us not to mind the house she was cleaning and it doesn't ever look this way.  They all keep asking about the black widows, and if we were going to kill them.  Ah we are pest control, that is what we do!  We were finishing up with the garage.  Paul and I were just minding our own busy.  When the boyfriend told us not to mind some of the stuff in the garage, he told us that his girlfriend does pleasure parties for girls.
REALLY!! who tells you that, once Paul and I got into the truck we had so much to talk about, First the house, her house is always a mess.  Her outside as an even bigger mess.  I'm sad to say that it is only the beginning of the summer and there are so many more interesting people to meet.
Paul and I spent the rest of the waiting for more services roaming the mall, playing mario cart on the wii, and rockband in best buy, reading all the magazines in Barnes and Noble, and roaming an outlet mall. Exciting uh?
YAY! for first days! more to come.
